One of the primary functions of a father is in the instruction of his children.
Proverbs 1:8 “Here, my son, your father’s instruction
Proverbs 2:1 “My son, if you will receive my sayings…”
Proverbs 3:1 “My son, do not forget my teaching.”
Proverbs 4:1 “Hear, O songs, the instructions of a father…”
Proverbs 4: 10 “hear, my son, and accept my sayings.”
Proverbs 4:20 “My son, give attention to my words.”
Proverbs 5:1 “My son, give attention to my wisdom”
Proverbs 6:20 “My son, observe the commandment of your father.”
Proverbs 7:1 “My son, keep my words.”
- A Wise and Godly Father teaches his children to fear God Proverbs 1:7, 9:10
- A Wise and Godly father teaches his children to guard their mind
Proverbs 3:3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life
- A Wise and Godly father teaches his children to honor their parents
- Positive aspect of fear-a reverential awe.
- Negative aspect of fear-
- Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Trust-the Hebrew words means “to lie helplessly face down.” Act of humility, brokenness, submission to God’s total control over your life. - When God is feared, so is sin. Proverbs 10:27 says “The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.”
Proverbs 19:23 says The fear of the LORD leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.
