I. The Preeminent of the Word of God.

Preeminent because it is authored by God

Preeminent because it is affirmed by the prophets v 17

Preeminent because it is accomplished by Christ
II. The Prophetic Fulfillment of the Law of God

He fulfilled the Civil Law-His Perfect Life

He fulfilled the Moral Law-His Perfect Obedience
-
He fulfilled the Ceremonial Law-His Perfect Sacrifice
III. The Purpose of the Law of God-verse 19-20
A. Jesus showed them their righteous was
1. External-Luke 16:15 “You are those who justify yourselves before men”
2. Partial-Matthew 23:23 They abandoned the law of God that they couldn't live up to, invented their own, and then convinced themselves that they were spiritual.
3. Redefined-They made up their own rules bases on what pleased themselves.
4. Self-Centered-They did it on their own, and on their own terms
B. God gave the Law to protect man from himself
C. God gave the Law to point man to Christ
