Sermon Series: The Life of Christ: From Creation to the Cradle to the Cross to the Crown

Sermon Title: The Compassion of the Christ

Sermon Text: Matthew 9: 35-58

Sermon Date: April 15, 2018

I. The Origins of His Compassion

A. Originated In His Essences--He is God in the flesh

B. Originated in His Experiences--He is God in the flesh

Hebrews 4:15-For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin

II. The Objects of His Compassion

A. Jesus saw their Depravity

     i. The Scattered Ones-Helpless

      ii. The Sinning Ones-Helpless

       iii. The Sick Ones-Helpless

       iv. The Suffering Ones-Harassed

If you want to deeply hurt someone’s soul beyond the capacity of any words known to man, just wait until they have developed a very personal and strong emotional bond to you.  Pretend to love them and be their friend.  Then, begin to emotionally abuse them, and discard them like they never existed and you will see a job well done.

B.  Jesus saw their Destiny in Hell

C. Jesus saw their Despair without a Shepherd

III. The Objectives of His Compassion

A. For Instruction

-They did not see them at all

-They were too caught up in the lives they were living

-They were not concerned for the people

-They had no thoughts of reaching out and helping people around them.

 B. For Involvement
